Michael Crichton story attracted me from the beginning. It has a combination of action, science and fiction which are my favorite to read. I connected it to the Sci fiction movies minus the dinosaurs. A passage that I felt important and stopped me while reading the book was the guy came shooting in the park, putting the lives of families and children's at risk he said " Causalities are inevitable in accomplishing social change- history tells us that." Looking at the moral side, this statement is very wrong and inhumane. But looking at reality, this statement is very very real. Some politician and scientist would not mind risking the human life in order to achieve their goals. An example for that would be looking at the Arab revolutions and how the politicians and the heads of the country who were unfairly selected for their positions, had no problem killing few hundreds here and there to stop the revolutions against them. After few months when things got completely out of hands, they did not mind killing THOUSANDS of people in order to stay on their seats.
The scientific side of this book leans more toward being fiction than reality. Paradigm comes to my mind when reading the book. The author used science in his story the way he wanted it to be. He clung to ideas and theories that he believed are right and built the story about it. This was discussed in page 117. "At the same time, the challenges are significant. Barry will argue that there is insufficient evidence for global warming. He will argue that the supporting science is week. He will argue that the predictions from ten and fifteen years ago have already been shown to be wrong. And he will argue that even leading proponents of global warning have publicly expressed doubts about whether it can be predicted, whether it is a serious problem and indeed whether it is occurring at all."
Scientifically, global warming is proved to be a fact. An example that we all lived this year here in Minnesota is that we did not experience the same winter we are used to every year. Snow and rain was very limited. However, people from other parts of the world who are not used to seeing snow, they saw three or four snow storms.
Even though the story is fictional, but it covers important subjects. I found the environment pollution issue to be interesting. Hopefully, one day humans will understand the danger of environmental pollution and contamination not only on the environment, but also on their own bodies.
